Nylon Collar
Since its invention at DuPont in 1935, nylon has evolved from being used for toothbrushes
to just about everything that needs a burst of color coupled with the strength of polymers. Think of it as
combining the benefits of beauty, functionality and practicality, which is the exact reason why the nylon collar
has many pet owners going nuts over it. In a good way, of course.
Reasons for Nylon Collar
There are many reasons why nylon collars are very popular amongst pet owners. First, you can choose from many
colors, styles and designs that it is a veritable fashion world! You may choose from collars that will also match
your dog's outfits, fur coat and even match your dress so much so that both of you appear well put together.
Second, nylon is very durable and, hence, is value for your money. You can use the same collar for many months
before having to replace it with another. And even if you have to replace an old one with a new nylon collar, you
will probably go for the tried and tested. Well, of course, I also experiment with the different types of collars
but those made of nylon are usually the best bang for my buck.
Third, since nylon is machine washable, your pet always has a clean collar to use. Just throw the collar into a
cold water wash with mild detergent and then allow to air dry. In just a few hours, it will look as good as
new.
Fourth, the collar allows for the attachment of various dog tags upon which your contact details are imprinted
on. As such, nylon collars serve a very important function for pet owners like us who want their dogs returned by
Good Samaritans if and when they somehow stray from our homes.
Fifth and most important, a nylon collar is one of the safest types for your dog to wear at all times. This is
because it is basically made of hypoallergenic materials as well as easily detachable. Just make sure that the fit
is snug - neither too tight as to cause strangulation nor too loose as to fall off your dog's neck. This should not
be a problem as most nylon collars have lengths from 6 inches for small dogs to 26 inches for the larger
breeds.
So, if you were to ask me what types of dogs are suitable for nylon collars, my answer would be all dogs! After
all, with all the abovementioned benefits, you cannot resist the allure of nylon collars and go nuts about
them.
Choosing a Nylon Dog Collar
However, going nuts over nylon collars start with choosing the right one. The following tips should help in this
regard:
- Dog Size - Always measure your dog's neck and then add then add 2 inches more
so as to ensure safety and comfort.
- Collar Type - Choose the nylon collar best suited for the occasion, the types of
which include buckle, choke chains and dog harnesses.
- Dog Breed - Nylons can be studded with spikes for bulldogs or sewn with lace for
toy breeds so choosing which one accentuates a dog's characteristics is easy enough.
Indeed, nylon collars make for colorful, beautiful and practical choices for the pet owners. Many a time have I
been pleased with my choices and I hope you will, too.
